Statements supporting the wisdom of electing Barry Bruce to Circuit Court Judge:
As the campaign progresses this website will attempt to introduce Barry Bruce to the people of Greenbrier and Pocahontas County. Each month new statements will be presented, in order that you may know him better. After the primary we will start accepting questions and comments that may help us know what issues are most important to you.
This site will also offer an explanation of the role of the Circuit Court and how it intersects with your life by being the body that decides disputes and solves problematic situations. For one to make such an important decision – who do you want sitting on the bench – knowledge of the duties and powers of that office may be helpful.
The courtroom is sometimes the last place a person can go to be heard. If you are hurt, that is where you go to get justice. If you are wrongly accused, that is where you go to set things right. If you are sued for no reason, that is where you go clear your name. The courtroom is where you go to find justice in America. When you go to court you need to believe that the judge presiding over your case is intelligent, educated, experienced, fair, honest and most importantly, impartial.
There is much more to come. Here is the

Experience.
If your are prosecuting or being prosecuted you would feel more comfortable knowing that the judge in front of you has worked both as a prosecutor and as a defense attorney. You go in hoping that the judge can read through arguments and discover the truth. If you are suing or being sued you honestly hope the judge you face has had the experience of representing, as a lawyer, people on both sides of those types of issues, before becoming a judge.
That is why courtroom experience is important. West Virginia law only requires that one has a minimum of five years of practicing legal experience
before seeking a judgeship. It does not require that a candidate have experience in all four corners of that realm before asking to be placed in the center position. Without that experience it is often noticeable that judges may defer to better arguments, rather than look deep into the motives of the practitioners and demand that higher standards be met.
One of the best-tested courtroom attorneys this two-county area has ever seen is Barry Bruce.
He has practiced all the above areas of law for over 30 years. He has been seasoned, though not hardened or softened; educated, though not elite; principled, though not predisposed and he believes justice can be found in a court of law.
And, his belief in justice is based on the true experience he has gained from committing himself to a law practice in the greatest legal system in the world.
Barry Bruce: Experienced.
